It is named after "this place is near the river" and "there are no mountains in the near state, all of which are Linggang". In 278 BC, the general of the Qin Dynasty set up Jiangling. At the end of 1994, with the approval of the State Council, the original Shashi City, Jingzhou District and jiangling county were abolished, and Jingsha City and Jingzhou, Shashi and Jiangling District were established. 1July, 1998, with the approval of the State Council, Jiangling District was abolished and jiangling county was restored.
At the beginning of the 9th century BC, when Zhou Yiwang was in power, the bear of the King of Chu went to the hospital and named Wu Kang, the eldest son of the King of Chu, as the King of Sentences, whose geographical position was later called Du Ying. In 689 BC, King Wen of Chu ascended the throne, and in 278 BC, he moved his capital from Danyang (now Cheng Nan, 5000 meters north of Jingzhou) to Beiqi.
