After the Jinggangshan Conference, according to the decision of the CPC Southern Hunan Special Committee, the two armies were co-edited as the Fourth Army of the Revolutionary Army of Workers and Peasants, with Zhu De as the commander, Mao Zedong as the party representative and Chen Yi as the director of the Political Department. Strengthening the revolutionary armed forces in Jinggangshan is of far-reaching significance for consolidating and expanding China's first rural revolutionary base and promoting the development of the national revolutionary cause.
