Tongan "pineapple spike" longan is a famous fruit in Tongan District of Xiamen. It originated from Ma Kun Natural Village, Xitang Village, Xinmin Town, Tong 'an District, Xiamen City, and has been cultivated for more than 100 years. It was discovered by the Agricultural Technology Extension Center of Tongan District, Xiamen City in the 1980 general survey of longan variety resources, and developed and expanded.
