2.ChristopherColumbus: Italian navigator, 1492, who discovered America and was regarded as the discoverer of the "New World".
3. FerdinandMagellan: Portuguese navigator, 15 19- 1522 led his fleet to sail around the world for the first time. Although he was killed in the Philippines, his crew accomplished this feat.
4. james cook: British navigator who explored the Pacific Ocean three times during 1768- 1779 and discovered many new islands and regions, such as Hawaiian Islands and New Caledonia.
5. RobertScott: British Antarctic explorer, 190 1- 1904, led an expedition to the South Pole. Although they all froze to death on their way home, their exploration spirit and courage are still admirable.
6.EdmundHillary and TenzingNorgay: New Zealand mountaineers, 1953 became the first couple to climb Mount Everest.
