Lenin's understanding of socialism has changed a lot in his later years, which can be summarized by a sentence in On Cooperatives, that is, "our whole view of socialism has changed fundamentally". (Complete Works of Lenin, Volume 43, page 367)

In the practice of domestic construction, Lenin "discovered" and emphasized the principle of material interests.

He said, "Because we are not good at implementing this principle, we suffer every step", which is "a stumbling block for many socialists".
