The historical position of Xiangyang
Xiangyang is the gateway of Hubei Province, and it is also one of the most important military sites to March from the Central Plains into the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

The mountains in the Three Gorges area are in western Hubei, and the hills and mountains are in the north and south of eastern Hubei. As a channel leading to Hukou, Jiangxi Province, the Yangtze River is considered as the lower reaches of the Yangtze River after being incorporated into the Ganjiang River system.

There are mountains, hills and central plains in the north, and only the south and Hunan are connected by plains, which is the easiest and most frequent.

Xiangyang is located in the narrow mountain pass as shown in the figure, and it can go directly to Wuhan via Hanshui River. On land, the capital of Hubei used to be Jingzhou, which is the north-south passage to the Central Plains, the northern gateway to Jianghan Plain, and Xiangyang is the only way. The capital of Huguang in Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties moved to Wuchang, and the east side of the land can also reach Jianghan Plain to Wuhan via Sui-Zao Corridor.

In the Spring and Autumn Period, Xiangyang was the city of Deng, Gu, Sui and Li. The birthplace of Chu culture in Hubei is Xiangyang. Xiangyang County was built in the early Western Han Dynasty. Xiangyang belonged to Jingzhou Nanjun in the Eastern Han Dynasty. When the Emperor was offered by the Han Dynasty, Liu Biao, the secretariat of Jingzhou, moved his official position (yamen) from Changde to Xiangyang City (now located in Xiangyang City). At that time, Xiangyang controlled Hubei, Hunan, southern Henan and northern Guangdong and Guangxi. This period is the largest land area under Xiangyang's jurisdiction, and it is also the period when Zhuge Liang, a famous soldier, visited the thatched cottage and fought in the middle of China.

Since then, it has been divided into three parts: Wei, Shu and Wu. Jingzhou area still exists, big or small.

The name of Hubei province is later than Xiangyang. Hubei was first named in the Song Dynasty, including Jinghu North Road, Jingxi South Road, Huainan West Road and Jingxi South Road. Xiangyang House belongs to Jingxi South Road and is under the jurisdiction of Hubei.

During the Yuan Dynasty, there were three Chinese book provinces in China. The south of the Yangtze River belongs to Huguang Province, the north of the Yangtze River belongs to Henan Province, and Xiangyang Road belongs to Henan Province. But this Henan province is not the present Henan province. The hero of Legend of the Condor Heroes is Guo Jing, whose name is Xing, but at this time there is Guo Jing in Xiangyang history. Guo Jing written by Jin Da writers should be based on Guo Jing, right?

In the Ming Dynasty, Hubei was a Huguanghang province, Xiangyang Prefecture was under the jurisdiction of Huguanghang province, and the yamen was in Wuchang. There is a aria in Xu Ma's play: "I'm from Xiangyang House", that's it.

During 65438-0664, Shanghai and Guangzhou were divided, with Dongting Lake as the boundary, Hubei Province as the north and Wuchang as the capital. There are 8 prefectures in the province, including Xiangyang.

In the Republic of China, there was an administrative office in Hubei, and Xiangyang was one of the administrative offices in Sabei. After liberation, it was changed to Xiangyang Commissioner's Office, Xiangyang area. Now it is Xiangyang city.

Historically, Xiangyang has been under the jurisdiction of Hubei since the Song Dynasty. Xiangyang plays an important role in the history of Hubei. In the early days of liberation, Yunyang (now Shiyan City) and Suixian (now Suizhou) were under the jurisdiction of Xiangyang Office. Xiangyang was designated as Xiang Jing in the peasant uprising in Li Zicheng at the end of Ming Dynasty, and was in charge of the whole country. As mentioned earlier, when Liu Biao set up Jingzhou Institute in Xiangyang, his jurisdiction was also very large.

At that time, Jingzhou Hospital was located in Jingzhou Street, which is now the small north gate of Xiangyang, where everyone can appreciate the elegance of Xiangyang metropolis at that time. In terms of economic development, Xiangyang has always been among the best in Hubei. It plays an important role in Hubei Province.
