Jieshan Daban is one of the most famous mountain passes along the New Tibet Highway.
There used to be a road monument at the mountain pass, which was always knocked down by travelers. Why is this? Just because the words "6700 meters above sea level" are written on the road monument.
Is there a problem with the words "6700 meters above sea level"? From the perspective of modern people, it is understandable that travelers push it down again and again, and there is a little-known history in it.
1950 In May, in order to complete the task of liberating Ali region in Tibet, the independent cavalry division of Xinjiang Military Region established the first company in Tibet, which was composed of seven ethnic groups including Han, Mongolian, Hui, Tibetan, Uygur, Kazak and Xibo, with a population of *** 139. After more than a month's hard work, this heroic unit arrived in Ali, Tibet on September 9, and set up the first transshipment left-behind stronghold in Liangshuiquan, Gaize County on September 15.
This is a news of victory. A series of heroes were very excited and reported to the headquarters of Hotan Independent Cavalry Division on the same day. After receiving the telegram, the independent cavalry division reported it step by step, and soon spread the good news to the Second Military Region of Kashgar and the Xinjiang Military Region of Dihua (now known as Urumqi). Three days later, on September 18, General Wang Zhen reported the good news to the Northwest Military Region and the Northwest Bureau in Xi. There is such a passage in the message:
This is one of the "Jieshan Osaka" recorded earlier in the literature. However, later information showed that the actual height of Jieshan Daban was no more than 6,000 meters, which was caused by two reasons: First, the heroes of the first company were unfamiliar with the route at that time, and they may have passed Alttamudaban in the Keriya Valley; Second, at that time, the natural environment in this area was harsh and inaccessible, and the altitude in many areas was not accurately measured.
Mudaban, Alta, near the Keriya Pass, has always been the border of New Tibet. The Keriya Pass is more than 5,450 meters above sea level, and Mudaban in Alta is 5,500 meters above sea level. On both sides of the Kriya source valley from Mudaban, Arteta to Kriya Daban, there are towering snow-capped mountains stretching for more than 50 kilometers, with goddess peak at an altitude of 765,438+067 meters in the west and Tage Mountain in Qiong Mu Zi at an altitude of 6,920 meters in the east. goddess peak is the source of Yulong Kashi River (Baiyu River), and Tage Mountain in Qiong Mu Zi is the source of Kriya River, with a total length of 530 kilometers, originating from Ustenge. Flowing from south to north, at the starting point of the pioneers' company heroes, Pulu village moistens the fairy oasis, continues to meander north, goes deep into the hinterland of Taklimakan desert, and finally disappears near Dariyabuyi. It is impossible for a company of heroes to March in such an environment without going the wrong way. It is normal to go to places above 6000 meters above sea level.
The fact that the elevation in many areas has not been accurately measured is this: Before 1970, the PLA Surveying and Mapping Force entered Qiangtang and Kunlun Mountain no man's land in northern Tibet for field survey, there was no accurate topographic mapping data in the local area. Even in the Atlas of China published by China Map Publishing House in 1960s, Mushi Mountain in Kunlun Mountain and Tage Peak in Mu Zi, which border Xinjiang and Tibet, are 7282m and 7723m above sea level respectively, and are regarded as the main peaks of West Kunlun Mountain and other Kunlun Mountains. In fact, the altitudes of these two peaks are 6638 meters and 6973 meters respectively, with an error of 1000 meters.
Jieshan Daban is located in Songxi Village, Dongru Township, Ritu County, Ali Prefecture, Tibet, on the southwest bank of Longmucuo, a saltwater lake on the plateau, at K7 18km of the Xinzang Highway. The coordinates on Google Earth are 34 degrees 32 minutes 3 1.34 seconds north latitude and 80 degrees 25 minutes 14. 16 seconds east longitude. The saddle of the Karakorum Mountain branch, West Luokezong Mountain and East Luokezong Mountain, and the mountain pass is also the starting point of crossing Qiangtang no man's land along the southern edge of Kunlun Mountain.
At the same time, Jieshan Daban is also the starting point of the ancient Tubo road from the Ali Plateau through the Keriya Pass and the Pulu Village in Yutian County to the Tarim Basin. Travelers knocked down the road monument here mainly because of the actual altitude here-5248 meters-and travelers thought that this road was already difficult to walk, and it was called the "Devil's Road", which was very scary. If the words "6700 meters above sea level" are marked again, it will undoubtedly increase people's sense of retreat when they come here, which is unnecessary for the already harsh and abnormal new Tibet line.
The problem also lies in this kind of psychology: travelers pushed down the road monument, but the road management unit disagreed. Why? More because of the message mentioned above, the comrades of the road management unit may want to use the words "6700 meters above sea level" to complete the most authentic memory of a company of heroes. That's why there are road monuments that have been pushed down again and again, and they have been erected again and again. Until July 2005 1, a monument was erected again at Dabankou, Jieshan, the eighth traffic detachment of the Armed Police Force, and it was still marked with the words "6700 meters above sea level". And engraved on the back of the monument this "introduction":
The monument erected at Dabanyakou, Jieshan this time is black marble, with a height of 3m, a width of1.7m and a weight of several tons. It is more eye-catching than before, and it will not be easily knocked down when traveling. But in 2009, everything was changed back. First, the altitude of 6700 meters was changed to 5248 meters. Secondly, the original word "boundary pillar" was changed to "Jieshan Osaka". This change has truly restored the geographical area and topographic data of Daban in Jieshan-because the monument is neither 6700 meters above sea level nor the dividing line between Xinjiang and Tibet.
