Zhangzhidong

A famous minister in the late Qing Dynasty, assistant minister of the four dynasties in the late Qing Dynasty, the main representative of the Westernization School, and Zeng Guofan, Li Hongzhang and Zuo Tang Zong were also called "four famous ministers in the late Qing Dynasty". Politically, it advocates that "middle school is the body and western learning is the use". In industry, Hanyang Iron Works, Daye Iron Mine and Hubei Gun Works have been established. In education, he founded Qiangzi School (now the predecessor of Wuhan University), Sanjiang Normal School (now the predecessor of Nanjing University), Hubei Agricultural School (now the predecessor of Huazhong Agricultural University), Ci 'en School (Nanpi No.1 Middle School) and Guangya Academy. Zhang Zhidong attached great importance to the development of national industries, and built Hanyang Iron Works with a far-sighted vision, including 10 steel mills, ironworks and cast iron mills, 2 smelting furnaces, 3,000 workers and 1000 coal miners. This is the first large-scale steel industry produced by capitalist machines in modern China, and it is also the largest steel plant in Asia. The construction of Japanese steel mills is several years later. After the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, Zhang Zhidong gradually formed a set of systematic modern educational thoughts and realized the importance of establishing a new academic system. After serving as the governor of Huguang, Zhang Zhidong founded a large-scale new education in Hubei-industrial education, normal education and national education. These new educational activities have made the idea of a strong country in education play an important role in promoting China's educational modernization. Chairman Mao once commented: "When it comes to China's national industry, heavy industry cannot forget Zhang Zhidong."
