The Historical Evolution of Zhangshu Town
Zhangshu Town, formerly under the jurisdiction of Qingjiang County, Jiangxi Province, was revoked by 1988, and now it is the urban area of Zhangshu City.

Zhangshu Town has a long history. More than 4500 years ago, our ancestors began to work, live and multiply in this land. The residents who were active in Zhangshu area in the early days were a branch of Sanmiao people in ancient times, called "Yue people". They walked out of the primitive crowd and spent a long matriarchal clan era, establishing settlements in the hilly Fu Gang area on both sides of the Ganjiang River, or taking trees as nests or digging holes. They used the bluestone and granite on the mountain to grind them into simple tools such as axes, hoes, chisels and nets, hunted in the vast forest, fished by the Ganjiang River, started primitive agriculture and animal husbandry, and lived a life of * * * with labor and enjoyment. Later, they learned to make pottery, smelt copper and spin, and they had knives, spears, cymbals and shovels made of pottery pots, pots, beans and bronze. There are also people who specialize in handicrafts.

What is particularly commendable is that our ancestors have used written symbols. There are numerals, nouns and verbs in the unearthed 144 carved symbols and pottery characters. The bottom of a mud-gray pottery bowl is engraved with the words "eight soil villages and fields". According to experts' research, this is to express the meaning of offering sacrifices to gods and plowing fields. The copper charcoal residue, stone harbor and a large number of bronzes unearthed from the Shang Dynasty site in Wucheng, which is famous at home and abroad, show that the ancestors created a splendid bronze culture and broke the conclusion that Shang culture did not cross the river. The excavation of dragon kiln and porcelain shows that there is a primitive porcelain making industry. Cloisters covered with ceramic fragments and tripods symbolizing rights show that this place is by no means an ordinary village, but a city surrounded by fences. The excavation of a large number of bronze weapons makes people imagine the majestic posture of a well-equipped army.

Around Zhangshu Town, there are more than 20 sites/kloc-0 from Neolithic Age to Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period. It can be seen that the village was thriving and economically prosperous more than 2,000 years ago. This laid the foundation for the establishment of Gan Yang Town, Tan Xiao Town and Wuping Town in Qin and Han Dynasties. According to legend, as early as before the Qin Dynasty, there were four ancient villages, Peng, Liu, Yu and Du, east of the jujube hill River and west of the ancient ferry crossing of the Ganjiang River. At that time, the camphor tree turned into a forest here, and the shade covered the sun. An old man laid a tea stall under the shade of camphor trees at the ferry, and people gradually got together to exchange some products. Later, some handicraft workshops and shops were developed one after another, and a small street appeared to connect the four villages, commonly known as Tujiezi. This is the prototype of Zhangshu Town. Legends and archaeological discoveries passed down from mouth to mouth have broken the old story that Zhangshu Town is an ancient wasteland.

Zhangshu belonged to wuyue in the Spring and Autumn Period and Chu in the Warring States Period. According to Zi Zhi Tong Jian, in the twenty-fourth year of Qin Shihuang (223 BC), Qin destroyed Chu and captured the king of Chu. The following year, after Qin unified the world, feudalism was abolished and counties were established, and the world was divided into 36 counties. At that time, Zhangshu area belonged to Xingan County, Jiujiang County. Zhangshu Town is the county seat of Xin 'gan County, named "Ganyang". This is because Ganshui develops Liling, flows through Zigan Mountain, winds to the northwest, and joins Ganjiang River in the south of Zhangshu. Water is named after mountains, counties are named after water, and counties are governed by water. After 8 10, Gan Yang, as a new county, became the political, economic and cultural center of the county.

According to the Records of Xingan County in Chongzhen Period of Ming Dynasty, in the ninth year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty (587), Hongzhou General Political Department was established, and Luling County was changed to Jizhou, Bashan County Province, and Xingan County was transferred to Jizhou. Li Zile, the county magistrate, moved the county magistrate to Shinan Village, now Jinchuan Town, far away from the county seat. After the county moved south, Gan Yang was renamed Qingjiang Town. Because the town is near the confluence of Yuanhe River and Ganjiang River, the river here is crystal clear and called Qingjiang River in ancient times.

According to the Records of Qingjiang County during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty, in August 938, in Tanxiao Town (now Linjiang Town), 30 miles southwest of Qingjiang Town, due to the attack of Nanyue, Qian, Ji and Hong, many soldiers and horses piled up, and a governor was invited to play in the land. Dr. Li, the master of Southern Tang Dynasty, allowed him to play. According to the Book of Southern Tang Dynasty, "In August of the Reform Movement of 1898, Tanzxiao Town in Hongzhou was promoted to Qingjiang County, saying that Zhili was in our province, Gao 'an Jian 'an and Xiu De were cut off, and the new cadres worshipped learning and three townships were counties". At that time, Qingjiang Town was located in Xingan Baixue Township, so it was classified as Qingjiang County. Qingjiang town and Qingjiang county have the same name rather than county governance, which is easy to be confused. Qingjiang Town has always been known for its camphor trees. At this point, it was renamed Zhangshu Town.

Hua Xiong, the left assistant minister of the official department of Ming Dynasty, called it "the thoroughfare of eight provinces and the industrial and commercial center in central Jiangxi" in the biography of Zhangshu Town.

Qing Daoguang's "Qingjiang County Records" records: "The genus of wood is camphor tree, and all the materials are the best, so it was called Zhang Yu land in ancient times, and it is also a material." The origin of the name of Zhangshu Town is that the town is in the camphor forest, commonly known as the town. Until the early Qing dynasty, there were eight ancient camphor trees in the town, which were named as the basis of camphor town. In the early days of liberation, there was a dead camphor tree here. There is a cloud in the poem "Zhangshu Town" by the Qing Dynasty poet Cha: a piece of Qingjiang River. The old tree didn't know how to do business, but it was still occupied by the ancient society. There are also some myths and legends, such as Postscript of Searching for God, Zhang Yuji, Taiping Magnolia, Xuanshizhi and so on. When the story tells about the Three Kingdoms, one night, Wu Dong general Nie Gannu shot a white deer, and Zhong Zhang destroyed the monster. Nie You hunted the white deer to this point and killed the camphor tree essence. As a result, Zhangshu Town has another nickname of Lujiang and Arundo donax.

Since the establishment of Qingjiang County in the second year of Southern Tang Dynasty, Zhangshu Town has always belonged to Qingjiang County. Although camphor tree is not under the jurisdiction of the county, its position is important. In the Ming Dynasty, Hua Xiong once commented that Zhang zhen was ruled by the city and was also a thigh; In order to take the abdomen, the throat is also forbidden. It and Linjiang Town, which has military, road, government and county governments, are at loggerheads, competing with each other in economy and acting in their own way in culture.

June 1949, 19, Qingjiang River was liberated, and Zhangshu Town was under the jurisdiction of the county people's government. Moved to Linjiang Town on July 15 and moved back to Zhangshu Town on March 27th 1950. 1October 26th 1988, Qingjiang county and Zhangshu town were abolished, and Zhangshu city, Lujiang and Gan Yang streets were established.

Zhangshu Town is located at the junction of Ganjiang River between Yuanshui, with convenient transportation and developed business. It is famous for its traditional medicinal materials trading market and exquisite medicinal materials processing technology. Known as the "drug capital of the south of the Yangtze River", there is a saying that "medicine is just ineffective against camphor trees". Historically, it was once known as the four famous towns in Jiangxi along with Jingdezhen, wucheng town and Hekou.
