What is Du's origin?
The history and present situation of Du surname are as follows:

Du surname is a multi-ethnic China surname. Its source is Du Kang, Jiang, Qi and other surnames. Du Bo or Du Kang is regarded as the ancestor of surname.

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Du people migrated to parts of Hubei and Shandong. During the Western Han Dynasty, a noble family named Du was formed. During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Du moved south to escape the war and formed a large family there. During the Song and Yuan Dynasties, more and more Du moved to the south. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Du people who moved south to Fujian and Guangdong, some moved to Taiwan Province Province, and some lived abroad.

Migration distribution

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, a man named Du was an official in Shandong, Shanxi and other countries. The deeds of Du Xie, the official of Lu Zhi's uncle, can be found in the Spring and Autumn Annals, and his descendants' lineage records are also quite detailed, and he is regarded as the direct ancestor of Du's surname. When Shu Suntong, Du Xie took refuge in the division of Lu, his family moved to Ying (now Jingzhou City, Hubei Province), and was appointed as a court official by the King of Chu, and his son Du Chu was Doctor Chu.

During the Western Han Dynasty, the Du family in Jingzhao had moved to Sichuan and gradually formed the Du family. Later, due to official or business reasons, all surnamed people moved in and migrated to each other. At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, Du Ye in Maoling became the secretariat of Liangzhou (now Zhangjiachuan Hui Autonomous County in Gansu Province), and its jurisdiction was equivalent to Huangshui River Basin in Ningxia, Dingbian in Qinghai, Wuqi, Fengxian, Lueyang and Ejina Banner in Shaanxi.
