The ancient drama and dance in Myanmar mainly come from Indian and China puppet shows. According to the puppets' movements, Burmese created the basic movements of dance, including squatting, bending, holding out the chest, raising the head, flexing the joints and swinging the limbs, with symmetrical shapes and angular movements, cadence and continuous rhythm. On the basis of these basic movements, the Burmese created the "Thirty-Seven Gods Dance", which later evolved into the "Twelve Stages of Maid-in-waiting Dance" and became the representative of Myanmar classical dance.
Myanmar folk dances are also rich and colorful, including long and short drum dances, elephant foot drum dances, back drums and other folk dances. In folk dance performances, speaking, singing and dancing are often combined, and sometimes acrobatic performances are added. Folk dances are lively and enthusiastic.
