The Historical Significance and Value of Ba Jin's Home
Very valuable! !

Home is Ba Jin's masterpiece, the most successful one in his novel series Riptide Trilogy (including Home and Spring and Autumn Annals), and an excellent novel describing the rise and fall of feudal families in modern literature.

It profoundly reveals the characteristics, disadvantages and evils of feudal autocracy and feudal family system, and points out their inevitable fate, which is a monument to attacking feudal autocracy.

The story in Home happened before and after the May 4th Movement, when China was in a turbulent historical turning point.

The background is Chengdu, Sichuan, when the country was still very closed.

There is a big family of bureaucratic landlord class-Gaofu, which has five branches besides the old man.

Based on the stories of three brothers, Chueh-hsin, Chueh-min and Chueh-hui, the novel depicts a picture of the life of a big family, shows the typical forms of the life of a big feudal family, and truly records the historical process of the decline, corruption and final collapse of the big feudal family.

Since the appearance of new literature, there have been many creations with the theme of exposing the old family ethics. However, in the form of a long series of novels and such a huge scale, the feudal family was described systematically and deeply for the first time in modern times, and Home and Spring and Autumn Annals played a very important role in the history of modern literature.

The novel describes the different ideological characters and life paths of Chueh-hsin, Chueh-min and Chueh-hui, and describes the love and marriage entanglements and different experiences of several young people-Chueh-xin and Qian Meifen, Li Ruijue, Chueh-min and Qin, and Chueh-hui and Ming-feng. After writing the student * * *, Chueh-hui was locked up, the mutiny was shocking, Ming-feng, Mei Fen and Jui-chueh died tragically one after another, Chueh-min ran away from his marriage, and Chueh-hui left ... Through these stories, the writer's critical edge pointed not only to the old ethics, but also to absolutism as the core of feudal rule. The real significance of the love and marriage tragedy he described is not only to advocate free love, but to awaken young people.

In the author's view, the love tragedy between Chueh-hui and her maid Ming-feng, and the marriage tragedy between Chueh-xin and Qian Meifen and Li Ruijue are rooted in the irreconcilable contradiction between their desire for happy love and marriage and feudal ethics and autocracy, and the autocracy represented by the old family stifled their happiness and life.

Ba Jin wrote this novel for the purpose that he wanted to use a pen as a weapon to shout out "my accusation" against this "dying system":

When I write home, it seems that I am suffering with some people and struggling under the clutches.

I laughed and cried with those lovely young lives.

I wrote word by word, as if I were digging the grave of memory and seeing everything that moved me in the past.

When I was a child, I was often forced to witness the destruction of some lovely young lives, so that I got a tragic ending.

At that time, my heart was painful because of love, but at the same time it was full of curses.

I have a feeling that Chueh-hui is in front of his dead cousin (Mei). I even said what Chueh-hui said in front of his brother: "Let them be victims once.

"It wasn't until 193 1 that I finished writing my letter home that I had the opportunity to pour out my resentment against the unreasonable feudal extended family system.

So I boldly said in the "generating sequence" written by 1937: "I'll make my complaint about this dying system.

"I also said that the belief that the feudal extended family system will inevitably collapse inspired me to write the history of this feudal extended family and the story of the joys and sorrows of this collapsed feudal extended family of the landlord class.

I call this story the torrent trilogy, and there are two sequels after Home: Spring and Autumn.

Among Ba Jin's numerous novels, the Riptide Trilogy, which consists of three novels: Home, Spring and Autumn, is the masterpiece with the highest achievement and the greatest influence.

Among them, the first novel "Home" is not only the first monument erected on Ba Jin's literary road, but also one of the best realistic masterpieces in China's modern literary history.

The creative process of Riptide Trilogy lasted for ten years.

The first book was written in 193 1, and the title was torrent. From April of that year 18 to May 22 of the following year, it was serialized intermittently in Shanghai Times for more than a year. When it was published in May 1933, it was regarded as a "torrent".

The writing of "Spring" began at 1936 and was serialized in Wen Ji Monthly for ten chapters. Later, due to the suspension of publication, it was not completed until February 1938, and a separate book was published in April of the same year.

Autumn was written from July of 1939 to May of 1940. During the period, I wrote for five or six hours every night and sent it to the printing plant for typesetting while writing. The manuscript was finalized in early May and the book was published in July.

Based on the feudal family where he lived for 19 years, he wrote a series of novels, accusing the evil of the old family and showing his social ideal brewed in Ba Jin's heart for many years.

In the history of modern literature, exposing the evils of feudal system is an important theme that many writers pay attention to.

However, there are not many writers like Ba Jin who insist on expressing this theme for a long time, and it is even more rare to see such a large-scale work as the Riptide Trilogy, which focuses on the feudal family from the inside.

It is Ba Jin's outstanding contribution to China's modern literature and the most prominent ideological significance of Riptide Trilogy to tear open the false veil of feudal family system, reveal its cannibalism essence and clearly reveal its dead end.

The Trilogy of Riptide not only shows the evils, corruption, disputes and persecution within the feudal family, but also focuses on the awakening of the younger generation under the influence of the May 4th new ideological trend and their uncompromising struggle against the feudal forces, and praises their revolutionary actions against the feudal family and system with great enthusiasm.

The Riptide Trilogy is a precious artistic record of social changes in China in the early 1920s.

As an exhortation to repay the blood debt to the feudal forces and a clarion call to encourage young people to take control of their own destiny, it broke down the old family barriers for many young intellectuals in the 1930s and 1940s and played an enlightening role in the revolution.

To this day, it still arouses the hearts of many young people in China and abroad.

The Riptide Trilogy embodies Ba Jin's experience and feelings, which is the result of Ba Jin's artistic creation on the basis of solid life.

The familiarity of subject matter, deep feelings and clear love and hate provide a broad world for Ba Jin to skillfully display his outstanding artistic talent.

The sincere and strong love and hate in the trilogy, together with the fluent and lyrical words, are vivid and vivid artistic models based on people familiar with life, and the detailed description of objective reality constitutes a real and touching picture of life.

The achievement of this masterpiece marks a new height of Ba Jin's realistic creation.
