1995 to 2003, eight prehistoric city sites were discovered in Chengdu Plain, namely Baodun Site in Xinjin County, Pixian Ancient City Site, Yufu Village Site in Wenjiang District, Tancheng Site in Dujiangyan City, Shuanghe Site in chongzhou city, Zizhu Site in chongzhou city, Yandian Ancient City Site in Dayi County and Gaoshan Ancient City Site in Dayi County. The first six sites are considered as "Chengdu Plain".
The prehistoric city sites in Chengdu Plain are the earliest, largest and most densely distributed group of prehistoric city sites in southwest China, about 4000-4500 years ago. On June 25th, 20001year, the prehistoric city site of Chengdu Plain was announced by the people of China and the State Council as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
Site characteristics
1997, the ruins of prehistoric ancient cities in Chengdu Plain were rated as "1996 Top Ten New Archaeological Discoveries in China", which was the first time that Sichuan Province won the highest honor in domestic archaeology. Baodun ancient city site covers an area of 2.76 million square meters and is divided into internal and external walls. The city is rectangular from northeast to southwest, with a length of about 1000m, a width of about 600m and an area of 600,000 m2.
The excavation area before and after is about 500 square meters, which belongs to the first phase of Baodun culture. Found 2 small houses, 32 ash pits and 7 earth pit tombs, among which there are many children's tombs, and most adult tombs are long and narrow pits with straight limbs and no funerary objects. The city wall was dissected twice, and the construction method was slope pile. The strike marks of plate-shaped tools are clear, and the city wall was built in the later period of the site.
