The largest local railway in Guangxi disappeared in the mountains, and many industrial and mining enterprises appeared along the line.
I have been staying at home to rest this National Day holiday, because my work unit requires me to report for a business trip outside the province on National Day (epidemic prevention needs). On the last day of the holiday, I couldn't stand loneliness, so I decided to take a walk around Jin Chengjiang. So I got on my scooter and started a trip to visit industrial sites along Jinhong Railway. Why is it an industrial relic? Because Jinhong Railway, together with its extended Luomao Railway, two large steel mills and two large coal mines along the line have all withdrawn from the historical stage. First of all, let me tell you about the history of Jinhong Railway Line and Luomao Railway Line, the two largest local railways in Guangxi. These two railways were born in the 1970s, and their history is not very long. However, because the local railway has not carried out large-scale passenger transport, the line mainly winds in the northern part of Guangxi. Only some elderly locals have memories of this, and young people simply don't know this history. The following is excerpted from Guangxi Local Railway Records:

The Golden Red Line leads from Jinchengjiang Station of Guizhou-Guangxi Railway, and runs from Jingpingping, Pohua, Luopu, Huajiang and Yamai to the Supreme Court, with a building length of 82.9 kilometers. Luomao Line leads from Luopu Station of Jinhong Line, passes through Duchuan and Rende, and enters Guizhou Kenzhi, Pingzhai and Gengban, with a building length of 55.5 kilometers. Jinhong Line and Luomao Line are constructed simultaneously with Hongshan Coal Mine and Gengban Coal Mine respectively.

natural conditions

Both lines pass through mountainous areas, with complex topography and geology, peaks and valleys. Feather Gu Duo is composed of rocky hills, shale, limestone and gravelly soil. The highest temperature is 38.7 and the lowest temperature is -5.2. The annual average precipitation is 1389— 1750 mm. Besides coal and iron, there are many non-ferrous metals such as lead and zinc along the line. Small enterprises such as coal mine, iron ore, steel, fertilizer and food have been built. Zhuang, Maonan, Buyi and other ethnic minorities are scattered along the line.

Survey and design

1February, 969, the 6927 engineering headquarters of the autonomous region was responsible for the construction of the golden red line. It was surveyed and designed by Liuzhou Railway Bureau. The terminal, Shang Chao Station, is located in a high mountain canyon, 8 kilometers away from Hongshan Coal Mine.

At the beginning of 1972, it was found that the coal reserves in Hongshan area were inconsistent with the actual investigation, while the coal reserves in Maolan area of Guizhou Province were abundant. The autonomous region decided to build the Luomao line in combination with the construction of Pingzhai and Gengban coal mines.

1February, 970, the Golden Red Line started construction in an all-round way, with 47,000 professional teams from Liuzhou Railway Bureau and Autonomous Region Transportation Bureau and 47,000 migrant workers from Hechi District participating in the construction. 197/kloc-0 was completed and opened to traffic in may, with 6.543 million cubic meters of earth and stone works for subgrade and 6/kloc-0.50 million cubic meters of retaining walls and masonry. 2 bridges1seat1264.6m, 4 tunnels (856.9m), 93.426km of main track and station track laying, 303 culverts (5635.8m) and buildings15662m2. The communication, signal and locomotive turntable projects have been completed. The investment is 635 1 1,000 yuan.

1At the beginning of 972, Luomao Line was completed and opened to traffic1July 976. Subgrade earthwork is 6,526,500 cubic meters, retaining wall and masonry187,200 square meters, 5 tunnels 1469 meters, 3 bridges 1232.7 meters, and 3 culverts 195 meters. The investment is 84.3623 million yuan.

It can be seen that the country paid a lot of manpower and material resources to build these two sections 100 kilometers of railways. At the peak of railway operation, these two lines can also transport 420 thousand passengers a year (it is estimated that the main source of tourists is mining workers).

These two railways, which were born because of the development of coal mines, eventually declined rapidly because of the disappearance of coal mines. As far as I know, Hongshan coal mine in Guangxi has completely stopped production because of the exhaustion of its ore source, and some workers have been resettled in nearby towns and villages; Although there are still reserves to be mined in Gengban Coal Mine in Guizhou, it has been closed for many years. Investment information for mining enterprises in 2020 released by functional departments of Guizhou Province can also be found on the Internet. It is estimated that it will take time to resume mining. In a word, when we come to the golden red line, we can only see rusty tracks and trains wrapped in green vines, silently telling the glory of the past and the loneliness of today.

Unlike railways and coal mines, there are two steel mills on Jinhong Line, which are located in Huanjiang County of Hechi City, Hechi Iron and Steel Plant in Guangxi and Yamai Iron and Steel Plant in Guangxi. In the era of their operation (1970s to the beginning of the new century), although industrial and mining enterprises in Guangxi blossomed everywhere and the degree of intensification was not high, the two iron and steel enterprises still occupied an important position in the industry. The reason is that the steel production threshold is not low. At that time, the number of steel mills in Guangxi could be counted by the palm of your hand (now it is less, and the industry is highly concentrated. The steel mills we are talking about here can really turn iron ore into pig iron by blast furnace, and other steel mills can only use finished steel to shape various steels.

I think there are two reasons why I chose to invest in two steel mills in the mountainous area of northern Guangxi. One is the scale of the third-line construction, and the industrial enterprises were moved to the mountains as the strategic operation at that time. The other is that there are not only coal mines but also iron mines along the Jinhong Railway Line and Luomao Railway Line (although the iron ore reserves are small and scattered, the background at that time was speed first), and the steel mills were built at the right time, which is also a good time and a good place. However, with the improvement of China's market economy, the disadvantages of these third-tier enterprises have gradually emerged. Both of them are faced with rigid problems such as small scale, chaotic enterprise management, exhaustion of local raw materials, and remoteness of the site, which makes the two iron and steel enterprises completely defeated in the competition with the industrial city Liuzhou Iron and Steel Plant, Guigang Iron and Steel Plant in the hinterland of Guangxi with Xijiang waterway as its back, and Fangchenggang Iron and Steel Plant with port advantage, and finally turned into a sigh and quietly went bankrupt.

Two railways, two large steel mills and two large coal mines collapsed together. You know, during the peak period, only two coal mines have 10 million employees and their families. I have to say that this is the sadness of the entire Hechi industry. Now I can only recall the excitement here through photos.

The scenery along the exploration journey is beautiful, but my heart is mixed. In a blink of an eye, I saw a tall railway bridge, which is a high-speed railway from Guiyang to Nanning under construction. It is like a shining dawn, especially dazzling. Maybe it's really unbreakable. Hechi City, where I live, has experienced too much silence in the development of the new century, but I believe everything will be fine.
