Brief introduction to the history of Huaiyin Shiplock
The history of Huaiyin Shiplock is introduced as follows:

First, the historical evolution of the lock

Ship lock is an important infrastructure of modern water transportation. Ancient people knew the important role of building shiplocks and always attached importance to the construction of shiplocks. History: During the reign of Emperor Yongxi in the Northern Song Dynasty, when Joe dug the Shahe River at Huai 'an-Huaiyin Wharf, he created the "Second Doumen" for the convenience of grain tankers crossing the weir.

This water-saving facility with two doors is one of the earliest shipping facilities in the world, and it is actually the prototype of today's ship lock. In order to effectively control the excessive water level difference between upstream and downstream and facilitate the safety of navigation on water, a separate lock was set up at the intersection of the main tributaries of the river.

From the 22nd year of the Republic of China (1933) to the 26th year (1937), steel products were imported from abroad, and Shao Bo, Gaoyou and Huaiyin shiplocks were successively built in the northern part of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, which enhanced navigation capacity and promoted navigation safety to a certain extent, and still played a great role.

Second, the construction of Huai 'an old shiplock

/kloc-in the summer of 0/949, a serious flood occurred in Sihe, yi river and Shuhe areas in northern Jiangsu, from the Longhai railway line to the north of the abandoned Yellow River and He Lixia area. /kloc-in the summer of 0/950, the Huaihe River flooded again, and the Yunxi area in Huai 'an was particularly affected by Wang Yang. On May 4th, 195 1, President Mao Zedong wrote an inscription for harnessing the Huaihe River: "The Huaihe River must be built".

Under the personal care and command of Premier Zhou Enlai, in May 1952 and 10, after the completion of the main irrigation canal project in northern Jiangsu, the contradiction between flood discharge, irrigation and shipping in different seasons was adjusted in order to balance the water level difference between the two rivers.

The Huaihe River Regulation Project Headquarters in northern Jiangsu decided to build a new ship lock on the Grand Canal in Shitang Township, Huai 'an County, south of the intersection of the two rivers. The project started in September 1952 and was completed and opened to traffic in June 1953.

People have always called it "Huai 'an Old Ship Lock". Gate hole width10m, gate chamber length100m, floor height 2.5m, gate wall top height1/0.7m, designed upstream and downstream maximum water level10m, minimum water level 7.5m and threshold water depth 2.5m.. It takes 30 minutes to pass the lock, and the highest water level of the lock is 3.7 meters. The sluice was designed and constructed by the Huaihe River Regulation Project Headquarters in northern Jiangsu, with a total investment of 6.5438+0.28 million yuan.

Huai 'an Old Ship Lock Management Office is led by the transportation department of the county people's government, and its business guidance is managed by the Inland Waterway Bureau of Subei Administrative Office. 1953 1 month. After the establishment of Jiangsu Province was restored, it was managed by the Provincial Shipping Department, the Communications Department and the Provincial Shipping Administration.

Third, the abandonment process of Huai 'an old shiplock.

The construction of Huai 'an Ship Lock has played a very good role in controlling and alleviating the speed of the Grand Canal, especially in flood season, and ensuring the navigation safety of water transport vessels. However, with the rapid recovery of the national economy and the continuous development of socialist construction in urban and rural areas, especially with the arrival of the climax of the 1958 "Great Leap Forward" movement, the capacity of waterway passenger transport, especially waterway freight transport, has been continuously expanded and strengthened.

Due to the limited capacity of ships, a small-scale old ship lock has a "stuck neck" project, which has been difficult to meet the needs of water transport development. Therefore, Jiangsu Grand Canal Project Command and Jiangsu Provincial Communications Department decided to invest in the construction of the new Huai 'an Ship Lock (hereinafter referred to as 1).

Huai 'an Shiplock is located in the west of the old shiplock and sluice, and started construction in September 1, 1 and 959. The sluice adopts herringbone steel gate with flat plate opening and closing steel valve. The sluice chamber is 230m long and 20m wide, with an annual storage capacity of 2 1 10,000 tons. The project started in June 1968+0658.
