1947, following the strategic deployment of the CPC Central Committee, Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping led the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan field army south, broke through the natural barrier of the Yellow River on the night of June 30th and advanced into southwest Shandong. In order to prevent our army from going south, Chiang Kai-shek hastily mobilized three reorganization divisions and a brigade from Jiangsu, Henan and Anhui in an attempt to destroy our army in the triangle of the Yellow River and the Canal. Liu and Deng saw through the enemy's plot, played along and launched the southwest Shandong campaign. Take the tactics of "attacking a little bit (Yuncheng), luring the enemy to help, gnawing at one side (setting pottery) and breaking them one by one". First annihilate the weak enemy in Yuncheng and West Road and paralyze the enemy on the left. Seeing that the situation was not good, Chiang Kai-shek's sixty-sixth division reorganized its troops and retreated to Yangshan to gather for help. Our army quickly concentrated its superior forces and overcame all kinds of difficulties. From July 14 to July 28, after bitter and fierce fighting, this stubborn enemy was completely eliminated, thus ending the entire southwest Shandong campaign.

Southwest Shandong campaign * * * wiped out four integrated divisions and nine and a half brigades, * * * fifty-six thousand people. Among them, senior Kuomintang generals such as Chen, the division commander of the 66th Division and the division commander of the 70th Division, seized a large number of weapons and equipment. The victory of the southwest Shandong campaign opened the way for the People's Liberation Army to advance into the Central Plains, leap into the Dabie Mountains and lead the war to the Kuomintang-controlled areas. It kicked off the transition of China People's Liberation Army from strategic defense to strategic attack, which started a great turning point in China People's Revolutionary War and created favorable conditions for winning national victory.

In order to commemorate the soldiers who died heroically in the Southwest Shandong Campaign and better inherit and carry forward the glorious tradition of our party and army, with the care and support of the Central Military Commission, provincial and municipal party committees, governments and relevant departments, the Southwest Shandong Campaign Memorial Hall was completed on the occasion of the victory of Zhou Huijun in the 50 th Southwest Shandong Campaign. The Politburo Standing Committee (PSC), who participated in the southwest Shandong campaign, and Liu Huaqing, vice chairman, personally wrote the names for the museum.

The Memorial Hall of Southwest Shandong Campaign displays some rare historical photos, telegrams, letters and objects, including Chairman Mao's personal letters to Liu and Deng. There was news of the "crossing the river order" issued by the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army Command at that time; There is a photo of Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping after crossing the Yellow River; There are photos of our army advancing into Dabie Mountain; There are photos of Lieutenant General Song Ruike, the chief of staff of Major General Guo Yulin, who surrounded the enemy in Yangshan and captured the enemy alive. And People's Daily, Hebei-Shandong-Henan Newspaper and Popular Daily reported that the "Southwest Shandong Campaign" and "Yangshan Campaign" had achieved brilliant results and victories at that time, and so on. The Memorial Hall of Southwest Shandong Campaign is for us to remember the revolutionary martyrs and educate the revolutionary tradition.
