1965 Singapore became independent, but at that time, Singapore did not have a complete army, only a small number of armed militia, and all British troops withdrew from Singapore after the founding of the People's Republic of China, which made Singaporeans who had no military combat experience feel uneasy. Fortunately for Singaporeans, however, the Israelis agreed to help them form a national defense force, and a tank force was established.

In the early days, the Singapore Tank Force purchased the French AMX- 13 tank and the British Centurion tank. Although these two tanks have average performance and inconvenient maintenance, they can at least buy tanks with good firepower on the market at the lowest price, and they are two tanks that Israelis can directly teach their experience.

By the beginning of 2 1 century, the tanks purchased when New China was founded had obviously fallen behind the modernization level, so Singapore found German Laobao 2 tank, which further promoted the modernization process of its tank forces.

AMX- 13SM 1 light tank

Singapore bought more than 300 AMX- 13 at a time. The total combat weight of the tank is about 15 tons, and the length and width of the tank are only 4.8 meters, which is very small and very suitable for use on narrow island roads in Singapore. The swing turret is equipped with a 75mm rifled gun, and there is an automatic loader in the car, which can hold six rounds of two magazines, but it needs to be loaded from the outside after 12 rounds.

Centurion Tank (Xun Qiulun)

For Singapore, the biggest advantage of this tank with a total combat weight of more than 50 tons may be the 105mm rifled gun, which has high hit rate and great destructive power, but its maneuverability and protection are not good. At the same time, Soviet-made RPG began to spread in Southeast Asia, so Singapore did not buy too many centurion tanks.

Leopard 2-SG

In 2006, Singapore acquired the German Leopard 2A4 tank. Two years later, we purchased the "main battle tank revolution" protection kit, renovated the tank interior and electromechanical equipment, and named it "Leopard 2-SG". Although the performance of the modified Leopard 2SG has not been greatly improved, it is much better than its neighbor PT9 1M(T72).

The equipment of Singapore tank force (mechanized brigade) is completely imported, so there will be one less car. This situation is somewhat similar to that in the early days of Israel, but it is still a question whether the Singaporean army has the ability to repair the equipment damaged in the Israeli war.
