Two weeks later, they met again in a secret tryst in Hanover Street. Although Salinger was married, she and Halloran soon fell in love. She tried to resist, but was attracted by the charm of America. By contrast, her husband Paul Salinger (Christopher Pramer) describes himself as charming and pleasant, but quite boring. As a teacher, he is now a trusted member of the British intelligence service.
Halloran was sent to Nazi-occupied France after a secret mission to provide a British agent (Captain Will). At the last minute, Salinger needs to be an agent and join his own task. His reason was not clear at first, but he gradually found that he wanted to prove himself.
While flying over France, his plane was hit and all the crew members were killed, except the only survivors, Halloran and Salinger. In occupied France, the two must cooperate and act as agents to hurt his ankle, especially his back. Salinger's mission was to arrive in castle wolfenstein, Lyon, posing as an SS officer to shoot important documents, which listed the British intelligence of German-made double agents. Halloran agreed to help Salinger. Because of their connection with the local French resistance, they disguised themselves as SS officers and stole documents. The SS troops sounded the alarm, but the two men managed to escape the long car chase and returned to the same farm where they received aid. However, they were chased by hundreds of Nazi troops who betrayed their collaborators and were forced to flee again, but they managed to escape themselves.
In London, Salinger's wife found Halloran and Salinger together, and had gone home, injured with her husband, but still alive. When she visited him in Hanover Street Hospital, she met Captain Halloran and said it was the last time. They hugged and kissed, and he told her that he loved her "enough to let her go". She went to see her husband. He went to Hanover Street, where the love story began.
