Scrophularia (Figure 2-27), a perennial herb of Scrophulariaceae, has roots used as medicine. Contains alkaloids, sugars, sterols, amino acids, fatty acids, and trace amounts of volatile oil and carotene. Bitter taste, slightly cold. Has the effects of nourishing yin, reducing pathogenic fire, moistening dryness, promoting salivation, removing toxic substances and relieving sore throat. Indications: polydipsia, fever, sore throat and constipation. Location: Zhejiang Pan 'an, Dongyang, Xianju and other counties. It has a long history of cultivation and is one of the eight famous flavors in Zhejiang. In addition, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Guizhou, Jiangsu, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangxi and other provinces have cultivated. In Enshi City, Hubei Province, there is a production base that has passed the national GAP certification.

In addition to Zhejiang Scrophularia, there is also Sichuan Scrophularia. ), mainly produced in Pengzhou (formerly Pengxian), Zhu Jin, Yongchuan and Fuling in Chongqing. Bougainvillea , distributed in Liaoning, Jilin and other provinces, with a small amount of cultivation; Mullen Du Fei. Distributed in Hebei and other places, it is wild. Among the above four kinds of Scrophularia, Zhejiang Scrophularia has thick and fat roots, high yield and good quality.
Scrophularia is a deep-rooted plant, which likes warm and humid climate, but its stems and leaves are light frost-resistant and adaptable, and can grow in both north and south. Water in the soil tends to rot the roots.
