The Old History of the Five Dynasties was compiled with Yongle Dadian as the main book, which was decided by Emperor Qianlong. Together with Twenty-three History, it was called Twenty-four History, which became the "official history" of traditional historians in the past. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, Ke Shaowen compiled the New Yuan History. 192 1 year, then President Xu Shichang ordered it to be included in the Official History, forming what people usually call the Twenty-Five History. This Twenty-Five History is different from this one, because it does not include the New Yuan history, but contains the draft of the Qing history.

There are many genres of historical books written by the ancients, and Twenty-five History adopts biographical style. This historical genre originated from Sima Qian's Historical Records.

Biographies are mainly biographies of people. Whether it is Historical Records or other biographical history books, Biography has the most space in the book. In Twenty-Five History, biographies are usually put at the end. In addition to biographies, Historical Records also includes watches, books and aristocratic families. "Table" takes the form of a table, and writes people and things in a certain order.

"Book" specifically records the laws and regulations, and each "book" is like a special history.
