Shaoxing has this name since ancient times. It was called Huiji Yin Shan in Ming Dynasty and Shaoxing in Song Dynasty. What were the names of other dynasties such as the Tang Dynasty?
Shaoxing is called Yuyue in summer, also called Da Yue, or Yue for short. During the Spring and Autumn Period, the Yue nationality was established in Shaoxing today, which is called Yue State. In the twenty-fifth year of the King of Qin (222 BC), the Yue army was called Huiji County. The Eastern Jin Dynasty was called Huiji Country, and the Southern Dynasties restored Huiji County and set up East Yangzhou. In the ninth year of Emperor Kai of Sui Dynasty (589), Wuzhou was restored. The first year of Daye (605) was called Yuezhou.

The Tang Dynasty was also called Yuezhou. In the seventh year of Xining in the Northern Song Dynasty (1074), Yuezhou set up two roads in East Zhejiang, which governed, Qu, Ming, Taiwan, Chu and Wen. Immediately merged into two Zhejiang roads, divided into nine years and ten years. In the Southern Song Dynasty, Shaoxing was changed from 1 13 1 to Yuan, and Yuezhou was promoted to Shaoxing Prefecture. This is the origin of Shaoxing's name, which has been used ever since.

Extended data:

Shaoxing has five surface landforms: plain, basin, hill, mountain and platform.

Shaoxing is located at the junction of three geomorphic units: the hills in western Zhejiang, the hills in eastern Zhejiang and the plains in northern Zhejiang. The terrain is high in the south and low in the north, forming the landform characteristics of mountains, inclusive basins and concentrated plains, showing the shape of "mountain"

The landform can be summarized as "four mountains, three basins, two rivers and one plain", but in terms of area distribution, it is characterized by "six mountains, one water and three fields". The whole terrain inclines from southwest to northeast, the highest point is Dongbai Mountain, the main peak of Huiji Mountain is located in Zhuji, with an altitude of 1 194.6 meters, and the lowest point is Hutian area in Zhuji, with an altitude of only 3. 1 meter.

The surface topography of the northern plain is monotonous, but the underground space is complex, and there are complex silt layers, soft soil layers and hard soil layers, which provide a variety of architectural foundations for surface buildings.

Geologically, the territory is bounded by the Jiangshan-Shaoxing deep fault passing through the city (the line from Pingshui Town in Keqiao District to Huangshan Mountain in Zhuji City). Northwest and southeast belong to Yangtze paraplatform and South China fold system, and belong to Jiangnan (northwest) and South China (southeast) stratigraphic areas.

Due to a large number of geological activities in history, rich and relatively complete geological structures have been left behind. Quaternary strata from Mesoproterozoic to Cenozoic in northwest China are well developed and a large number of sedimentary layers appear. The southeast region is dominated by Mesozoic and Cenozoic strata, with igneous rocks developed and many missing strata.

The geological structure of Shaoxing city belongs to Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic geological periods, and most of them are exposed in China.
