In The Book of Five Wheels, Musashi Miyamoto told himself that he defeated Marcy Bingwei in the first duel at the age of thirteen, defeated the Matan samurai Akiyama at the age of sixteen, and went to Kyoto at the age of twenty-one to fight against swordsmen from all over the world. Musashi Miyamoto, who was exiled, became a ronin, and Musashi Miyamoto began to practice kendo everywhere to challenge the tournament in Kyoto. In order to hone his swordsmanship, Musashi Miyamoto challenged Yoshioka, known as the "First Sword Dojo in Kyoto". Musashi Miyamoto and Kijiro Yoshioka, the owner of the Yoshioka Pavilion, fought in a temple in the wild, and Kiyojiro was finally defeated by Musashi and died.

Yoshioka's 76 followers who took part in the battle were furious. They drew their swords and rushed to Musashi, under the guidance of Yoshioka Jishiro's younger brother Yoshioka Kawashiro. Musashi had expected that there would be stones in the rice fields. Standing on the stones, Musashi swam like flies, killing Yoshioka's disciples who were confined by the soil. The siege of 76 people turned into a one-on-one fight of 76 people, and Musashi came to kill one, killing 76 warriors including Yoshioka Chuanqilang. This is the famous temple duel. After this war, Musashi also found himself good at using two knives.
