The history of new york
The history of new york is very short, only over 300 years. The earliest settlement was at the southern tip of Manhattan Island, which was originally the residence of Indians. 1524 Italian Frazzano came to the estuary for the first time.

1609, the British Hudson explored the upper reaches of this river, and the river was named after him. 1626, the Dutch bought Manhattan Island from the Indians with small objects worth about 60 guilders (equivalent to 24 US dollars) and turned it into a trading post, which was called "New Amsterdam".

1664, the Duke of York, the younger brother of King charles ii of England, occupied this place and renamed it new york (new york, England has Yorkshire). New york was founded on 1686.

During the War of Independence, new york was the headquarters of George Washington, the place where he became the first president of the United States, and the temporary capital of the United States at that time. 1825, the Erie Canal connecting the Hudson River and the Great Lakes was completed and opened to traffic.

Later, a railway was built, which linked new york with the central and western regions and promoted the great development of the city. By the middle of19th century, new york had gradually become the largest port city in the United States and an international metropolis integrating finance, trade, tourism, culture and art.

The origin of the name:

New york means "New Yorkshire"-after the Anglo-Dutch War, the Netherlands was defeated and forced to cede New Amsterdam to Britain, which happened to be the birthday of Duke York, the younger brother of King charles ii.

So the new Amsterdam was renamed the new Yorkshire as a gift to the Duke of York. In addition, at the beginning of the 20th century, new york was a brand-new world for immigrants, and opportunities were everywhere.

Therefore, new york is often nicknamed "The Big Apple", which means "It is beautiful and delicious, and everyone wants a bite". New york has an official Latin name Novum Eboracum, which is used as the city emblem, meaning "New Abram". Abelraken was the old Latin name of York during the Roman Empire.
