Although Alsophila spinulosa is classified as Taxodium in modern plant classification, it existed in the early Paleozoic millions of years ago and was once considered extinct. However, a living Alsophila spinulosa forest was discovered in China in the 1950 s, which made Alsophila spinulosa known to the world again and became a magical ancient plant. So from the perspective of plant history, cycads are relatively old plants.
