Under normal circumstances, this saline-alkali land cannot grow food, which is very unfavorable to the development of the whole country.
Due to some historical problems, there are a lot of saline-alkali land around Bohai Sea in China. This land is so barren for China that it is impossible to grow food and support the people around it. Therefore, in the past few decades, grain has often been transferred from other regions to support the development here.
Before treating saline-alkali land, countries all over the world usually use a lot of fresh water for irrigation, trying to dilute the saline-alkali components inside. However, the Bohai Rim region of China is a place lacking fresh water. If this method of fresh water irrigation is used to control saline-alkali land, a large amount of fresh water resources must be transferred from other places. This project is huge and a very heavy burden for the whole country, so we must find ways to deal with the saline-alkali land problem here by more convenient means.
After years of hard work and exploration, our researchers finally summed up a solution, specifically, to irrigate a lot of salt water here in winter. Because of the cold, the salt water in saline-alkali land will freeze quickly, and when the spring blossoms, the melted ice water will carry some saline-alkali components into the deeper underground. After several such treatments, the local saline-alkali components will decrease rapidly and normal grain production can be carried out.
