The western regions began to communicate with filial piety, which was originally thirty-six countries, but later it was slightly divided into more than fifty. Records in Hanshu show that thirty-six countries are not only thirty-six. In ancient times, the demise of the country was entirely the survival of the strong, the demise of the weak, and the division and annexation of the country would lead to changes in the 36 countries. So in the Han Dynasty, 36 countries in the western regions gradually evolved into more than 50 countries through war, division and annexation.

It turns out that the thirty-six countries really have records. They are Wusun, Qiuci, Yanqi, Yuqian, Ruoqiang, Loulan, Qimo, Xiaowan, Rong Lu, Zhuomi, Qule, Pishan, Xiye, Puli, Yinai, Shule, shache, Weitou, Wensu, Yuli, Gu Mo and Wensu. The above are currently recognized as the thirty-six countries in the Western Regions of the Han Dynasty.

The original 36 countries now have corresponding positions in China. Wusun is located in Yining City, China, which is now Yili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Chabuchar Xibo County and several counties near Kazakhstan. At that time, it was the territory of Wusun State, and now most of it is occupied by Russia. Qiuci is located in Kuqa County and Baicheng County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang, China. Yanqi is located in Yanqi Hui Autonomous County, Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, China. Yu Kan is in Hotan City, Hotan District, Xinjiang. Ruoqiang is located in the southeast of Ruoqiang County, Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, and northwest of Lop Nur. Loulan is located in Luobu Desert, Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, and later renamed Shanshan (different from Shanshan County in Turpan area now). Now only Loulan site exists. At the end of this year, in the southwest of Qiemo County, Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, Xuanzang stayed here to learn from the scriptures. Xiaowan is located in the east of Qiemo County, Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, on the south bank of Qierqin River. Mimi is located in the east of Qira County, Hotan District, Xinjiang. Qule is in the south of Qira County, Hotan region, Xinjiang. Pishan is near Zanggui Township, southeast of Pishan County, Hotan region, Xinjiang, and there is a site of Pishan ancient city in Han Dynasty. Xiye is in the southwest of Pishan County, Hotan area, Xinjiang. Puli is in the east of Yecheng County, Kashgar, Xinjiang. Ai Yin is located in the southeast of Yingjisha County in Kashgar, Xinjiang. Shule is now Shule County and Kashgar City in Kashgar, Xinjiang. ? Shache is now shache county in Kashgar, Xinjiang, and was later annexed by Khotan. Weitou is located in Wushi County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang and bachu county, Kashgar Prefecture. Wensu is located in Aksu City and Wensu County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang. Yuli is now Korla City and Yuli County of Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang, and was later annexed by Yanqi. Gu Mo is now in Baicheng County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang.
