1, thunderstorm

Thunderstorm is a drama created by playwright Cao Yu, published in the July issue of Literature Quarterly, 1934.

Based on the China society around 1925, the play depicts the tragedy of a bourgeois family with strong feudal color. In the play, there are two families, eight characters and thirty years' feud as the main line, Zhou Puyuan, a hypocritical capitalist, Zhou Chong, a simple teenager influenced by new ideas, and Fan Yi, a woman who is driven crazy by an indifferent family and hurt to pieces by love.

Zhou Ping, who was full of guilt about his past actions, tried to escape. Ma Lu returned unexpectedly, Sifeng, who simply loved and was loved, Lu Dahai, an oppressed worker, and an insatiable housekeeper.

All contradictions, whether family secrets or life secrets, broke out in Thunderstorm Night. While describing family contradictions and entanglements and angrily denouncing the decadent and stubborn feudal families, they also reflected deeper social and times problems.

The plot is gripping, the language is refined and implicit, and the characters have their own characteristics. It is "the cornerstone of China's drama realism" and a milestone in the maturity of China's modern drama.

2. Sword of the Brave

Bright Sword was written by Cao Yu, mercy and Yu Shizhi. It is a good work of historical drama creation. The Dragon Slayer by Eternal Adversity (in cooperation with Yu Shizhi and Mei Qian) is based on the historical story of Gou Jian, the king of Yue, who tasted courage more than 2,400 years ago.

But the author's real intention is not to reinterpret this story about rejuvenation. 1In the early 1960s, due to natural and man-made disasters, China's national economy was in a temporary difficult period. In order to arouse people's fighting spirit, Cao Yu wrote this five-act historical drama.

3. Sunrise

Sunrise is a drama created by modern playwright Cao Yu. The play began to be serialized in the first issue of Literature Quarterly in June 1936, and was first published in June 10 of the same year.

Sunrise takes Tianjin society before the Anti-Japanese War as the background, takes Chen Bailu, the social butterfly, as the central figure, and takes the gorgeous lounge of a hotel (Zhonghui Hotel) where Chen Bailu lives and the third-class brothel (the room where Cui Xibaohe lives) as the activity place, and writes four scenes of dawn, dusk, midnight and sunrise.

This paper describes the activities of the upper class representing decadent forces in the darkness before sunrise and the miserable life of the lower class in semi-feudal and semi-colonial cities affected by the economic panic in the capitalist world in the early 1930s. The play expresses the author's strong love and hate for real life and his eager expectation for the Oriental Red Sun.

4. vilen

Yuanye, adapted from Mr. Cao Yu's classic works Yuanye and Yuanye, is the most outstanding drama master in the history of modern literature in China. This classic, written in 1937, is the only work by Mr. Cao Yu describing the rural areas of China, and its style is obviously different from his other representative works.

For example, Thunderstorm, Sunrise and Beijingers. This work is different from realism. This seemingly simple revenge story contains profound feelings and shows complex and vivid characters: it not only exposes the darkness of feudal society, but also shows the oppressed and devastated farmers' yearning for a better life, further exploring the complexity and versatility of human nature.

5. Beijingers

The three-act drama Peking man takes the economic decline of the Zeng family, a typical declining scholar-bureaucrat family, as the clue of the overall contradiction and conflict, and takes the Zeng family as the protagonist to start the conflict between good and ugly, rebirth and decay, light and darkness in the family.

Through these conflicts, we went deep into feudal families, trying to reflect the devouring of people by feudal spiritual rule, people's pursuit of life under this spiritual rule, and the inevitable bankruptcy of this spiritual rule.

Screenwriter Cao Yu said: "At that time, I had a wish that people should live like people, instead of finding their way in the dark like many people at that time."
