The inscription was written by Wang Shouren. The "Story of Rain" monument was built in memory of Wang Yangming, a famous philosopher and educator in Ming Dynasty. Wang Yangming came to Shanghang in 15 17 (the 12th year of Zhengde in Ming Dynasty) and was ordered to be stationed in Shanghang County to eradicate the Zhangjiakou rebellion. After he moved to Shanghang, he did two practical things that won the hearts of the people: the first was to build a pontoon bridge. Seeing that it was inconvenient for people to cross the Tingjiang River, he chose to build a pontoon bridge under a ferry at the south gate (now near Yangming Gate), which was called Yangming Bridge in history. The second thing is to pray for rain for the people. In March this year, there was a drought in the local area, and he prayed for rain for the people. Sure enough, "it rains day and night, and the people think it is not enough. If it rains in April, it will rain tomorrow, and it will rain tomorrow, and the people will leave the fields. " After enjoying the rain, at the request of the squire, he gladly changed the "Qingfeng Pavilion" in Taiwan to "Shiyu Hall" and inscribed "Shiyu Ji". When he boarded the building in the south of the city, he saw that the people were busy with spring ploughing, and the fields were full of busy spring ploughing pictures. He was in a good mood and wrote three poems "Happy Rain in Shanghang". One of them wrote: "After the long drought in Yamada, it rained in Russia, and the wild old people sang with joy. Don't say that the pond will eventually be dangerous and the terrain is incomparable. " From this poem, the tourist can imagine the degree of his excitement and excitement at that time. [8] Although Wang Yangming was stationed in Shanghang for a short time, only about three months, the influence of "benevolent government" left by Shanghang people was long-lasting. Wang Yangming's name stayed in Wazi Street in Shanghang for a long time.
