The famous Kaiyuan Temple, as a landmark in Hebei, is visited by many people every year to see its elegant demeanour. As a temple, there must be a clock. As a cultural symbol of the temple, the clock is a very important thing. Temples without bells mean decline, but after years of baptism, few can be preserved well.
Incredibly, although the iron clock has been eroded by wind and rain for more than 800 years, there is no trace of oxidation and rust so far, and the periphery of the clock body is still reddish brown, which shows that its iron temperature is pure green. In the 1970s, the clock was smashed again, and only a buzz was heard at the scene, but the bell body was not damaged, which showed the superb smelting technology of ancient craftsmen in China.
On the clock wall, there are eight diagrams and twelve patterns of the sun, the moon, people, animals, cows and fish, which correspond to the Chinese zodiac. It is a rare material for the study of ancient astronomy in China. It has been hung on the bell tower for hundreds of years to tell the time in class. Every day when the bell rings, believers and monks worship in different places, which has become a major landscape of Xingtai, and the "Wild Temple Bell" has also been rated as one of the "Eight Scenes of Xingtai".
