Liwan District is located in the west of Guangzhou, with the Pearl River running through it from north to south, bordering Yuexiu District, Haizhu District and Panyu District in the east, Baiyun District in the north and Foshan City in the southwest, with an area of 59. 1 square kilometer.
Yuexiu District starts from Guangzhou Avenue in the east and borders Tianhe District. I. Historical Evolution of Liwan District
From 65438 to 0950, Guangzhou Municipal People's Government established Xinjiao District in the southeast suburb, Baiyun District in the north suburb and Fangcun District in the south suburb, and Fangcun began to become a district-level administrative unit.
1960, fangcun people's commune was established by the municipal government. Later, it was changed to Fangcun District and the "Fangcun District People's Government" was established.
From 65438 to 0985, due to urban development, the government divided Guangzhou into eight districts: Yuexiu, Dongshan, Liwan, Haizhu, Baiyun, Huangpu, Tianhe and Fangcun.
In May 2005, it merged with the old Liwan District, and the administrative division of Fangcun District was revoked.
