First of all, posthumous title is a surname. In the early Western Zhou Dynasty, Hu Gongman, a descendant of Shun Di, was sealed by the State of Chen and destroyed by the State of Chu at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period. Later generations took Hu as their surname. According to historical records such as Compilation of Yuanhe Surnames, the origin of Hu's surname can be traced back to the descendants of ancient sage Yu Shun. In this way, the ancestor of Hu's surname should be Hu Gongman, who was named Chen's land more than three thousand years ago.
Hu Gongman is the 33rd generation grandson of Zhou Wuwang's son-in-law Yu Shun, and he was named Chen Hou. It can be seen that the ancestors of Hu family in China are the orthodox descendants of Yu Shun and the descendants of the Yellow Emperor.
Note: A son of Chen Hugong takes Chen Hugong's name as his surname, and a grandson of Mingong Chen takes Chen Hugong's name as his surname. These two views are the works of Anding Hu's Anding School and Anding Hu's School respectively, and later the "Spectrum" was revised and attached to Gong Man.
During the pre-Qin and Han dynasties, it was not said that Hu's surname originated from the works related to surnames such as Shiben, A Thousand Commandments, Customs and Hu's Inscriptions. It was not until 5 16 years after the Northern Wei Dynasty that some members of the family of Situ Hu Guozhen in the Northern Wei Dynasty thought that Hu was a palace barbarian, which was also adopted as Hu's family origin by some family name books and Hu's genealogy in later generations.
The compound surname Hu Mu is the descendant of the younger brother Hu Mu in the Warring States Period. The compound surname is simplified to the surname, and the distant ancestor is Gong Man. Before the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Humu family in Taishan County was prominent, and then it gradually disappeared. Hum, who is probably one of the four major surnames in Taishan County, was influenced by the surname reform in the Northern Wei Dynasty and simplified to change his surname. In the later period, the prestige of the county was not obvious, or he had been integrated into the stable Hu family.
Hu Mujia has a history of more than 2,000 years and was very popular at first. In the Qin dynasty, there was a great teacher, Hu Muzun, and in the Han dynasty, there were Hu Mu students and Hu Muban. After Jin Dynasty, Hu Fu's surname was gradually replaced by the word "Hu". Because most of his descendants changed their surnames to Hu, the spread of Hu's mother's compound surnames decreased day by day.
Distribution of past dynasties
There are two main sources of Hu surname: one is Huaiyang, Henan, and the other is Fuyang, Anhui. Hu takes the original point as the center and extends around. After several generations of reproduction, it reached Xincai in the south and Shanxi in the north, becoming the Hu family at that time.
During the Han Dynasty, he traveled to Shaanxi, Gansu, Shanxi, Shandong, Hubei and other places. Among them, the family that moved to Gansu became a prominent family in the later Han Dynasty, and later became the main source of Hu's reproduction in various places.
During the Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties, Hu lived in Chen (now Huaiyang, Henan). Later, due to the "Yongjia Rebellion", the gentry of the Central Plains moved southward on a large scale and entered Fujian with the other seven surnames, becoming one of the "Eight Surnames of Fujian".
During the Tang and Song Dynasties, members of the Hu family moved to Jin 'an County (including Zhangzhou and Quanzhou in Fujian) and were regarded as the ancestors of the Hu family in central Fujian. His fifth son moved to Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi and other provinces, which made the Hu people broadcast again and made great progress. During the Southern Tang Dynasty in the Five Dynasties, another branch moved from Deshan Township in Liling to Jizhou (Ji 'an, Jiangxi) and Jinling (now Nanjing, Jiangsu), gradually making Jiangxi the breeding center of Hu's family.
During the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, some Hu surnames who lived in Huaiyang, Henan Province, moved to Fujian, Guangdong and other places to escape the war, and then spread to other provinces, thus making Hu surnames the most popular surnames all over the country and far abroad. Hu surname is a common surname now, which is widely distributed, especially in Sichuan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Zhejiang, Shandong, Hunan and other places.
