The Festival Customs of Hainan Junpo Festival
Qi people, a branch of Li nationality in Qiongzhong area, are held every year on June 20th of the lunar calendar. Legend has it that this day is the birth day of the owners of four villages and towns, such as Qiandui and Chengpo. On that day, people came from all directions, carrying the statue of Master Yao to the villages in the noise of gongs and drums. Every time the team goes to a village, all the men, women and children in the village will dress up to welcome them. In the harvest year, the villagers specially invited a famous troupe nearby to perform Qiong opera. There is a story about this festival. It is said that once there was a fisherman fishing by the river, but he caught a big trunk several times. He threw the suitcase to the shore with some unhappiness, and unexpectedly found that the fish basket was full of fish. That night, the fisherman dreamed of the destroyed Master Chengpo Cave and asked the fisherman for help. He asked the fisherman to carve the trunk into his own image, and said that after the image was carved, if someone came to burn incense, he would be carried to patrol the villages and make a military slope so that the fisherman could make a fortune without hard fishing every day. Later, the fisherman followed this dream and it really worked. So there was the Army Slope Festival. In ancient times, this festival was the most lively in the local area. After the 1950s, it gradually declined.
