1. Observe appearance: When selecting corn, observe its appearance first. Fresh corn has bright appearance, full seeds and tight bracts. Avoid picking corn with yellow bracts, dry leaves and shriveled grains.
2. Variety selection: The common corn varieties in the market are sweet corn, waxy corn and old corn. Choose the right variety according to personal taste. Sweet corn tastes sweet and crisp, suitable for frying, boiling and other cooking methods; Waxy corn tastes waxy and soft, suitable for steaming, stewing and other cooking methods; Old corn tastes elegant and is suitable for soups and stews.
3. Feel the weight: Pick up the corn with your hands and feel its weight. Fresh corn has heavy weight and tight bracts. If the weight of corn is light, it may be because of water loss and poor taste.
4. Observe the germ: The germ of fresh corn is full and bright green in color. If the germ is black and shriveled, it means the corn is not fresh.
5. Check the pulp: peel off the corn kernels and observe the color and texture of the pulp. Fresh corn syrup has bright color, full texture and luster. If the pulp is dull and the texture is dry, it means that the corn is not fresh.
