Name source
The name of Yantian comes from Yantian Village and Yantian Market. The earliest historical records of Yantian Village and Yantian Market appeared in the records of Xin 'an County of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty, which were named after plowing the fields and drying salt by the sea. In the Qing Dynasty, a trading market appeared on the beach in the northeast corner of Yantian Port. Many people come by boat from the sea instead of taking the mountain road. This is Yantian market. Later, the market grew bigger and bigger, and people who went to the market also set up tents to stay at the edge of the market. The open-air market gradually evolved into Yantian Village. There are many place names related to salt production in the history of Shenzhen. Apart from Yantian Village and Yantian Market, there are also Yanzao Village (now north of Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station), Yanliaoxia Village, Yantian Tianliaoxia Village and Yanzaoxia Village. Yantian Village is located at the foot of Wu Tong Mountain. In the early Qing Dynasty, a flood in Yantian was set up here. "Flood" is the name of grass-roots military institutions in Ming and Qing Dynasties.
