History of Baiyun Temple
Baiyun Temple has a long history and great changes. Baiyun Temple was built in the first year of Zhenguan in Tang Dynasty (AD 627). It was destroyed by fire in the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, and was rebuilt by the great monk Jiexiu in the Ming Dynasty. During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, Buddhist monks carried out large-scale repair and expansion. At that time, it occupied an area of 546 mu, including the second floor of the mountain gate, bell and drum, five Buddhist temples, Buddhist scripture building, east-west cloister and so on 1000. This building is grand and solemn. The temple is full of pines and cypresses, melodious Buddhist music and tourists, which is the heyday of the development of Baiyun Temple.

It is said that it was summer when the temple was built, and it was extremely hot. The craftsmen were all sweating, and the blue bricks and tiles were too hot to work normally. Just as I was about to stop working, a white cloud suddenly appeared in the hot sun and floated over the temple, like a huge umbrella covering the hot sun, so that craftsmen could work normally in the shade.

It was not until the temple was built that the white clouds dispersed. This temple was named "Baiyun Temple". Tianwang Temple is the first temple in the temple. The Lotus Ridge of this temple is decorated with Kirin and the Fork Ridge is decorated with animals. On both sides of the temple are statues of the four great kings, hence the name of the Heavenly King Hall. In the middle is a statue of Maitreya, smiling and meditating barefoot. The main hall on the second floor is Guanyin Hall. There is a hexagonal pavilion on the southeast side of the temple, which was built to thank the masters of Taiwan Province Province and others for donating 20,000 US dollars at a time. The roof of guanyin temple is decorated with rolling dragons, covered with tiles, cornices and horns. Eighteen arhats are enshrined on both sides of the temple, with different sitting postures, different palms, strange and lifelike expressions. The main statue enshrined in the middle is Guanyin Bodhisattva, sitting in danger and gesturing, as if explaining Buddhist classics. Behind him stood a Wei Tuo Bodhisattva.

Daxiong Hall is the main building in the temple. There is a bluestone railing in front of the temple, and two lions guard the door. The hall is in the shape of nine ridges, with dragons carved on the lotus ridge and glazed tiles covering the top, and two lions guarding the door. The main hall is the Nine Ridges of Mount Tai, the Lotus Ridge carved with dragons, the glazed tile roof and the bucket arch canopy, with exquisite brushwork and covering an area of about 500 square meters.

Three giant buddhas carved from sandalwood sit in the center of the temple, with Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, in the middle and Guanyin Island behind the three giant buddhas. The 32 incarnations of Avalokitesvara stood on the island with different expressions and postures, and Avalokitesvara stood on the crocodile, choppy and rolling. There is a green stone carving behind the Hall of Ursa Major, which is a multi-tower. The tower is engraved with monks worshiping Buddha, drumming and chanting. The scripture of Tianbao, as well as the patterns of the sun, the moon, cranes and lotus flowers, are exquisitely carved, simple and elegant, and were made by Zhai Peng's family in Yanglan County (now lankao county) in Kaifeng after making a wish. There is a gate in the northeast corner of Duobaota, which is novel, unique and eye-catching. The ridge is decorated with a pair of fat dolls, one leaning up and the other leaning down. The head is blue, and the head is facing. It is clumsy and lovely, with a pair of jade pillows in front of it, hence the name Yumen Pillow Sun Doll Door. The nine incomplete inscriptions in front of the Jade Buddha Temple tell a true legend.

According to legend, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty visited Baiyun Temple three times and lived here for several days. After sending away five treasures, such as the dragon head, the jade hook and the eight cabinets of Tibetan scriptures, he personally wrote four characters, "Always be rewarded in the class", engraved in the shadow of the mountain gate. Although the monument is incomplete, it still exists today. There are more than 10 jade buddhas in the Jade Buddha Hall, all of which are carved with Burmese white jade, and their gems are inlaid with silver, with vivid images. In particular, the nirvana method of Sakyamuni Buddha is more than 3 meters long, which is rare in China at present. This was specially presented to Baiyun Temple by General Fu's aunt Fu from Myanmar. The number of jade buddhas in this temple ranks first among the four famous temples in Henan. Located in the northeast corner of the temple, the Gongling Pagoda of the Buddha statue is carved with blue stone, and the bottom of the pagoda is sumeru-shaped, with six edges, three levels and eighteen angles. On the front, eleven characters of "Buddha's Gong Lingta" and "thirty-one Buddha's Gong Monk of Fudong Sect" are engraved, and the tower body is carved with patterns such as flowers, birds, insects, fish and beasts, which are exquisite, lifelike, flexible and beautiful. It is worthy of being a treasure among the existing sculptures in China. 200 meters southwest of Fogong Lingta, there is an iron pot ancient pagoda, about 15 meters high, thick enough for three people to embrace each other, old and mottled, with lush foliage and swaying posture.

Surprisingly, this big tree actually grows in a big iron pot, 2.5 meters in diameter, half a foot buried in the soil and exposed, hugging the roots tightly, and its trunk is longer than the jade bird, lotus petals, baby face and other grotesque things. It is said that this tree was planted by Emperor Kangxi in memory of his father when he came here to look for him. Over time, it grew into a towering tree and became a must in the landscape. Baiyun Temple is famous for keeping music. 1952, the Buddhist band led by Master Long Longjiang won the prize in one fell swoop in the national folk art performance. Premier Zhou Enlai praised his performance of Buddhist music "Yangyin", which was cordially received by Premier Zhou Enlai and Chairman Zhu De, and took a group photo as a souvenir. In May 2002, at the invitation of Shaolin Temple, it played for Chinese and foreign VIPs, and the music played was played by German national television, which pushed this kind of Buddhist music to the world.
