During the Western Jin Dynasty, the north and the south were briefly unified, and Xuzhou was still under the secretariat of Xuzhou. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Xuzhou belonged to Pengcheng County of Xuzhou. In the late Northern and Southern Dynasties, the north of the Yangtze River was occupied by the Northern Dynasties, and Xuzhou belonged to Pengcheng County of Xuzhou in the Northern Qi Dynasty. The Sui Dynasty restored the administrative system of the second-level counties in Qin Dynasty, and Xuzhou belonged to Pengcheng County. In the Tang Dynasty, an administrative region was added above the county level, and Xuzhou was subordinate to Huainan Road.
In the Song Dynasty, the administrative region was changed into a road, and Xuzhou belonged to Jingdong West Road Xuzhou. In the Southern Song Dynasty, the north of Huaihe River was occupied by the rulers, and Xuzhou belonged to Xuzhou, Shandong West Road. The Yuan Dynasty established a province, and Xuzhou was subordinate to Guide House in the north of Henan Province. In the Ming Dynasty, the provincial boundaries were adjusted, and Xuzhou was returned to Xuzhou, a southern zhili province. In the early Qing Dynasty, jiangnan province was divided into two parts, and Xuzhou was subordinate to Xuzhou Prefecture, Jiangsu Province.

Xuzhou, known as Pengcheng in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province, a national historical and cultural city approved by the State Council, a national comprehensive transportation hub and a central city in Huaihai Economic Zone. By the end of 2020, Xuzhou had five municipal districts, three counties and two county-level cities under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 1 1258 square kilometers and a permanent population of 9,083,800, achieving a regional GDP of 7319.77 million yuan, ranking 27th in the country.
