Anhui province is an important birthplace of Chinese civilization. A human activity site about 2.5 million years ago was discovered in Renzi Cave in Fanchang County, and a Paleolithic site of "Hexian Ape Man" about 300,000-400,000 years ago was excavated in Longtan Cave in Hexian County. Anhui province is rich in wildlife resources, with 4245 species of higher plants, accounting for 14.2% of the national species, including 6 species of national first-class protected plants and 25 species of second-class protected plants. It is an important base of agricultural products production, energy, raw materials and processing manufacturing in China, and industries such as automobiles, machinery, household appliances, chemicals, electronics and agricultural products processing occupy an important position in China.

Anhui Province is known as the hometown of China traditional drama. The performing arts of Anhui Opera have a long history, and there are many kinds of famous artists. There are more than 30 kinds of local operas, including Huangmei Opera, Huizhou Opera, Lu Opera, Sizhou Opera, Pendant Opera, Huagu Lantern, Tui Opera, Heizi Opera, Wennan Ci, Mulian Opera, Bow Opera, Siping Tune, Hongshan Opera, Taihu Quzi Opera and Huaiqiang Opera.

Huangmei Opera, formerly known as Huangmeidiao or tea-picking opera, is one of the five major dramas in China. Hui opera is one of the main sources of Beijing opera. The Nuo opera in Chizhou is known as "the living fossil of drama", and the flower drum lanterns popular on both sides of Huaihe River are known as "oriental ballet".
