The origin of chaotianmen
In ancient times, imperial edicts were read by eunuchs personally, and it was more convenient to go by water. So Chaotianmen became a place to meet the imperial edict. Because the ancient emperor was called the son of heaven, it was named Chaotianmen.

Chaotianmen is located at the intersection of Yangtze River and Jialing River. Since ancient times, it has been an important traffic node and the largest water transport terminal in Chongqing. There used to be a city gate here, which was the largest of the seventeen ancient cities in ancient Chongqing. Geographically, Chaotianmen refers to the place where Yuzhong Peninsula gathers, with Jialing River in the north and Yangtze River in the south, where the two rivers meet to form a Yangtze River.

Extended data

There are many legends about when Chaotianmen was named. One of them was in the Southern Song Dynasty, when the capital was in Lin 'an (now Hangzhou) in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The imperial edict reached Chongqing, all of which went upstream along the Yangtze River, and finally arrived at Chaotianmen Wharf to meet local officials at the gate. In ancient times, the emperor was the "son of heaven", so this city gate was named "Chaotianmen".

1On the morning of March 9th, 898, Englishman Li Dele appeared at Chaotianmen Wharf with the steamboat Lichuan, which was the first ship to enter Chongqing, and it really opened the door to Chongqing's opening to the outside world. After Li Dele, foreign merchant ships came one after another, and more and more foreigners came to Chongqing, thus the process of Chongqing's shipping industry and urban modernization began.

From the perspective of modern people, Chongqing was forced to open a port a hundred years ago, but the opening of the port objectively strengthened the connection between Chongqing and the outside world. Western modernization factors were gradually imported into Chongqing, which effectively stimulated the transformation of the local economic structure to the industrial age, thus promoting Chongqing's urban modernization.
