Cao Zhi, Zi Zijian, also known as Chen, was born in Qiao County. He is the third son of Cao Cao and the younger brother of Wei Wendi Cao Pi. Later, he was demoted to Anxiang Hou and moved to Wang Chen. Eventually, he died of depression because he could not display his talents.
Literary and artistic achievements
Cao Zhi's creation is divided into two periods, with 220 years as the boundary. His early poems mainly praised his ideals and ambitions, filled with optimism and romance, and full of confidence in the future, while his later poems mainly expressed the grief and indignation caused by the contradiction between ideals and reality. His poems not only reflect the sadness and elegance of The Book of Songs, but also contain the graceful and profound curiosity of The Songs of the South. It not only inherits the brushwork of reflecting reality in Han Yuefu, but also retains the warm and sad artistic conception of 19 ancient poems.
Cao Zhi's poetry has its own distinctive and unique style, which has completed the transformation from Yuefu folk songs to literati poems. Cao Zhi's works are included in Collected Works of Cao Zijian and Collected Works of Cao Zijian (volume *** 10), and Cao Zhi's poems are included. Among them, there are more than 80 poems, more than half of which are Yuefu poems.
