What is cuttage
Cutting, also known as cutting, is a common propagation method for cultivating plants.

You can cut off stems, leaves, roots, buds, etc. (called cutting in gardening), or inserted into soil and sand, or soaked in water, and then planted after taking root, making it an independent new plant.

In agricultural and forestry production, different plants have different requirements for cutting conditions. Only by understanding and adapting to their needs can we achieve a higher reproductive success rate.

Cutting belongs to asexual reproduction. According to different vegetative organs, plants can be divided into stem cuttings, root cuttings and leaf cuttings.

The bed can be cut according to local conditions, and all kinds of pots, wooden boxes, plastic boxes, fish tanks and so on can be used. When this container is inserted into the bed, the lower part should be padded with drainage, and if there are holes or cracks in the bottom, less drainage can be put. Some greenhouses have brick cutting beds, which can be cut with a little trimming. Sometimes, in order to rescue diseased plants, it is necessary to use a cutting bed with a bottom temperature in any season. Heat source is buried in the substrate with electric heating wire or electric heating clip, so that the temperature of the substrate is 3-6℃ higher than that of air, and the substrate takes root faster. Some easy-to-take-root varieties, such as longevity flowers of Sedum family and some cactus varieties used as rootstocks, can be directly inserted into the sand in greenhouses or plastic greenhouses.

The commonly used cutting substrate requires loose ventilation, no immature organic matter and no salt. Commonly used are river sand, vermiculite, perlite, plain sand, peat soil, humus moss, chaff ash and sawdust. No matter what kind of substrate, it should be clean, with uniform particles and moderate size. Generally, the substrate in the bed should not be spread too thick, otherwise it is not conducive to the increase of substrate temperature and affect rooting. After the scion of grafted plants is formed, it is sometimes necessary to take it off the rootstock and cut its roots. You can directly cut a single plant with a flowerpot slightly larger than the plant.
