Hohai University is a national key university with a history of 100 years, featuring water conservancy science, focusing on engineering, and coordinating the development of science, engineering, economics, management and literature. The comprehensive strength of water conservancy and related disciplines ranks first in China, and it is the highest institution of water conservancy science in China.

The school's predecessor can be traced back to Hehai Engineering College founded by Mr. Zhang Jian, a famous industrialist and educator in China, in 19 15. 1952 national departments were adjusted, and water conservancy related colleges (departments and groups) of Nantah, Tongji, Jiaotong University and Zhejiang University were merged and absorbed to form East China Institute of Water Conservancy. 1985 changed its name to "Hohai University", and Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally wrote the name of the school.

Hohai University is one of the national key universities "2 1 1 project", "1plan" and "985 Engineering Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" (Global Water Cycle and National Water Security Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform), and it is also one of 56 national graduate schools and universities.

Historical evolution:

19 15, Zhang Jian, then general manager of Nongshang and director of the State Water Conservancy Bureau, presided over the establishment of the Engineering College, with Huang Yanpei as the preparatory director of the school and Xu as the first president, and a modern water conservancy expert recognized by the water conservancy community in China as the academic director of the school. This is the first institution of higher learning in China that specializes in training water conservancy technical talents. It is subordinate to the State Water Conservancy Bureau and reported to the Ministry of Education for the record. 1924, Hehai Engineering College and the merged Engineering Department of National Southeast University established Hehai Engineering University, which still belongs to the National Water Conservancy Bureau, with Mao Yisheng as the first president.

1927 In June, Hohai University of Technology and National Southeast University formed the National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University (1928 was renamed as National Jiangsu University, Jiangsu University and National Central University). All students and books and equipment of Hohai University of Technology were merged into the Civil Engineering Department of the Institute of Technology (1928 was renamed as the Civil Engineering Department), and some teachers continued to apply for teaching, among which Lu Enxu was the dean of the Institute of Technology. The Department of Civil Engineering of Central University established the Water Conservancy Group in June 1937, but the Civil Engineering Group still exists. 1939 Central University established the School of Engineering, in which the Ministry of Civil Engineering established the Water Conservancy Engineering Group. 194 1, the water conservancy group was placed under the Ministry of Water Resources. 1May, 1949, became the Department of Water Conservancy of Engineering College of Nanjing University.

65438-0952 Water Conservancy Department of Nanjing University Institute of Technology, Water Conservancy Department of Jiaotong University, Water Conservancy Department of Tongji University, Water Conservancy Department of Zhejiang University and Water Conservancy Engineering Department of East China Water Conservancy College were merged to form East China Water Conservancy College. At the beginning of the hospital, there are four departments: hydrology, soil improvement, hydropower generation and hydraulic structure. 65438-0953, majoring in civil engineering of Xiamen University, Department of Farmland and Water Conservancy of Shandong Agricultural College, and specialized branch of Huaihe Water Conservancy School merged. 65438-0955, the major of water conservancy and soil improvement in East China Institute of Water Conservancy switched with the major of waterway and port hydraulics in Wuhan Institute of Water Conservancy.

1985, that is, the 70th anniversary of Hehai School, East China Institute of Water Conservancy was renamed Hohai University, and the traditional school name of Hehai was restored. Deng Xiaoping wrote his own name.
