Xihe River originates from the northern foot of Huoshaoying, Gou's hometown, and flows eastward from Yaoziyan Mountain Pass to the plain, where it joins with Hehe River, Ganwuli River and Bojiang River. Tong Yuan is also called Wenjing River.

From the lower part of Tong Yuan to the southeast, there are Shagou River, Xiangyang River and Baima River. Then it flows south through Mengdu Town, sanjiang town, and enters Xinjin County. Total length 109 km, and the length of the city is 96.8 km. It flows through 14 towns and is the longest river in chongzhou city.

Characteristics of Xihe River Basin: The total catchment area of Huangpi Lake and Baihu Lake above the gap of Xihe River is 1 138 square kilometers, mostly in hilly areas. The incoming water enters the Xihe River after being regulated by the two lakes.

During the period of 1953 ~ 1960, the white lake was reclaimed, which reduced the storage capacity of the upper reaches of the Xihe River. However, after dredging and regulation, Zhaohe River has been connected with Chaohu Lake from the gap and northeast to Mawei estuary. At this point, the flood above the gap basically flows into Chaohu Lake through Zhao He, and the area where the creek below the gap flows into Yuxi River is 1622 square kilometers.
