Historical events of Daxia University
But the development of the situation made the original plan unworkable. On the one hand, the victory of the Northern Expedition set off a patriotic upsurge among students. At the same time, suppressed by warlords and foreign troops, the rented school buildings are already very unsafe. On the other hand, with the improvement of the school's reputation, the number of summer students surged, and the number of students in the fall semester of 1928 reached more than 1000, which exceeded the capacity of the teaching building of Jiaozhou Road School. At the beginning of 1927, Ma was invited to build Guangxi University, resigned as the president of Daxia, and Mr. Wang became the president, so he decided to build a permanent school building in the selected place.

Since March 1929, Xia has purchased nearly 300 mu of land next to Zhongshan Road (now the campus of Zhongshan North Road, East China Normal University). That summer, several overseas Chinese students, led by former headmaster Ma, Ou Huaihuai and others, went to Nanyang to raise money to build a new school building. President Wang Boqun used more than 67,000 taels of silver (at that time, it was 1 1 1,000 yuan) to finance the construction of the teaching building, and borrowed 320,000 yuan from the bank with Zhongshan Road property as collateral. At the beginning of 1930, the teaching building of Zhongshan Road School started construction, and the first phase of the building was completed in September of the same year, including: the teaching building "Qunxian Hall" which can accommodate 2,000 students at the same time; "Qunce Zhai" and "Li Qunzhai" are two dormitories for boys and "Qunying Zhai" for girls, each dormitory can accommodate 700 people; In addition, there are 12 staff quarters, as well as student bathrooms and restaurants. So, Daxia University immediately moved in and handed over the Jiaozhou Road school building to Daxia High School for use. Then continue to build science laboratories, gymnasiums, medical rooms, auditoriums, staff dormitories in the East and West Buildings and various sports fields in the new campus, which will be basically completed by 1932. In addition, in the southwest of the school, another 400 mu of land has been set aside as Daxia New Village for faculty to build their own houses (more than 30 have been built before the Anti-Japanese War); There is also the beautiful winding Riivari River donated by Rong, which adds more beauty to the campus. Among more than 40 private universities in Shanghai at that time, Daxia University was especially famous for its magnificent architecture, beautiful environment and relatively complete facilities.
