The construction process of Wusong Railway;

Wusong Road Company purchased the land between Shanghai and Wusong, which is about14.88km long and13.7m wide. Then he announced that he had obtained land ownership and had the right to build bridges, dig ditches, set fences and build roads suitable for vehicles. Later, due to the shortage of funds, it was given to a British businessman Dixon, Wusong Railway Company, to buy land and repair the roadbed of the line.

Dixintong signed a contract with Jardine Matheson to build a light rail on the above subgrade, and then started road construction. In the 13th year of Tongzhi (1874), subgrade works began. On the surface, this is still an ordinary highway, and the earthwork is contracted by local Jiabao, with a maximum of 2000 workers. In the first year of Guangxu (1875), the subgrade project was basically completed.
