This sport originated in America. 1895 was invented by a sportsman named william morgan in Holyoake, Massachusetts, USA. In the early days, volleyball was called Mintonette (meaning small net). 1896, according to the characteristics of the competition, Professor halsted suggested that it be changed to volleyball, that is, volleyball with modern international common name. At that time, the official ball was 25~27 inches (about 63.5~68.8 cm) in circumference and weighed 9~ 12 ounces (about 255~346 grams). The material and manufacturing technology of the ball used in modern international competitions have changed greatly, but the specifications of the ball are still similar to those before.

Sports historians agree that volleyball was introduced to China in 1905. 1965438+At the first Far East Games held in Manila in February 2003, the host temporarily decided to add a volleyball competition, but only the host signed up. In order to complete the plan, we insisted on inviting the China team to participate. Without any preparation, China team selected players from track and field and football to form a volleyball team. After listening to the host's introduction to the game methods and rules, we began to play the game. After the first Far East Games, Guangdong players who returned from the competition were promoted in Guangzhou.
