Historical Legend of Winter Peach in Peixian County
According to legend, during the Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, there was a man named Zhu in Pei County who was the magistrate of Xiangyang, Hubei Province. He introduced winter peaches to Pei County for cultivation. The shape, height and leaves of winter peach trees are similar to those of ordinary peach trees, but they have strong cold resistance. It's freezing and snowing, and the peach trees in winter are still lush and fragrant. This peach stopped growing when it reached the size of a cherry. After a long summer, the temperature dropped in September and then grew rapidly. After the "heavy snow", peaches enter maturity and are picked around the "winter solstice".
