The origin of Fujian abbreviation "Min" The abbreviation of Fujian Province first appeared in the Zhou Dynasty, which has been more than 2,000 years. Xu Shen of Han Dynasty said in Shuo Wen Jie Zi: "Min is the snake god in southeastern Vietnam." There were many snakes in Fujian since ancient times, and the ancient clans living in Fujian regarded snakes as totems and idols. Therefore, when Qin Shihuang established the capital, he changed "Dongyue" to "Min".
