Historical legends:

A long time ago, two dragons swallowed the sun and the moon, and there was darkness between heaven and earth.

In order to subdue the dragon and save the sun and the moon, people gathered to discuss ways. Some people say: "The dragons hide at the bottom of the pool, and only those who are particularly good at water can beat them." Others said, "Dragons are fierce. Only when you get the golden axe and scissors of Alishan can you subdue them. " But where can I find someone who is especially good at water? How to get the golden axe and scissors of Alishan? Just when people were at a loss, young fishermen Dajian and Shuishe came out.

Brother Dajian and sister Shuishe came to Alishan with machetes and torches in their hands. They climbed mountains, cut through thorns and suffered a lot. Finally, they got the golden axe and scissors from the cave in Alishan. Back to the pool, they risked their lives, sneaked into the bottom of the lake and fought fiercely with two dragons for three days and three nights. Brother Dajian hacked them to death with a golden axe, and Sister Shuishe cut open the dragon's belly with golden scissors, saving the sun and the moon, and people saw the light again.

Brother Dajian and sister Shuishe were tired and hungry, so they used dragon meat to satisfy their hunger. They have been growing up since they ate dragon meat. In a blink of an eye, Dajian and Shuishe became two green hills, guarding the banks of the pool forever.

In order to commemorate these two young heroes who benefited the people, people named the two mountains Dajian Mountain and Shuishe Mountain respectively, and called this pool Sun Moon Lake.
