Is the Yangtze River the Yangtze River?
The Yangtze River is not the Yangtze River, but it belongs to a part of the Yangtze River. It is the old name of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River from Nanjing to the estuary, mainly flowing through Jiangsu Province and Shanghai. The reason why there is a saying that the Yangtze River is the Yangtze River is because the western missionaries who came to China in the Ming Dynasty first came into contact with the Yangtze River and heard its name, so they called it the Yangtze River.

The missionary to China in the Ming Dynasty was Matteo Ricci, a famous Italian missionary. After he came to the Yangtze River, he heard its name, used his imagination, defined it and made relevant records.

From this time on, influenced by Matteo Ricci, the Yangtze River was called the Yangtze River in the eyes of westerners. Later, this statement spread more and more widely, and some people in China mistook the Yangtze River for the name of the whole Yangtze River.

The origin of the name of the Yangtze River

As early as the Sui and Tang Dynasties, there was a saying about the Yangtze River. At that time, more than 20 miles south of Yangzhou, there was a small town called Yangzi. Because hi is located on the north bank of the Yangtze River, it is called Yangtze River Tianjin.

Later, Yang Di succeeded to the throne, dug a canal from Yang Shan to the Yangtze River, and built Linjiang Palace here. Tianjin in the Yangtze River valley is becoming more and more prosperous. Over time, people called the Yangtze River between Dantu and Jiangdu the Yangtze River.

Although in the west, "Yangtze River" has become the general name of the Yangtze River in China, even recognized by some people in China, there is no need to forcibly correct it because it has been circulating for a long time, but as China people, we still need to understand the Yangtze River and its history.
