Folklore in yi dance
String dance is also called "cigarette box dance" because the dancer is tap dancing with a cigarette box in his hand.

"Smoke Box Dance" is popular in the Nisu inhabited areas of Honghe, Shiping and Jianshui in south-central Yunnan Province. Dance can be divided into "strings" and "miscellaneous strings". Sine is a combination of two-person self-entertainment dance and performance dance. The main traditional passages are Mute Chopping Wood and Pigeons Eating. The dance is graceful, light, lively and funny. On the other hand, "Miscellaneous String" is further developed on the basis of "Sine", which is a kind of song and dance sketch with characters and stories. Among them, there are more than 100 kinds of representative programs, such as "Mute Touch Fish" and "Boy Worship Guanyin". The local mantra "people don't jump the strings, but live in vain for decades" can explain the important position of "jumping the strings" in people's lives and thoughts. The dance movements of Yi people are mostly dynamic, and the sense of sculpture in dance modeling is not strong. However, Yi people all have the modeling characteristics of plateau dance Yi Shun Bian. In life and work, because of the rugged mountain road, people walk around the mountain, especially when carrying heavy objects, their body center of gravity moves to one side, and their hands naturally swing slightly to one side, gradually forming a posture that can save labor and reduce danger. This posture has gradually become the basic dynamic of daily life, and gradually sublimated into the artistic beauty of "one side" and became the common aesthetic of plateau people. For example, the "Duhe Dance" danced by Yi women at the Torch Festival is a group dance in which only women participate in the performance. When dancing, one person leads the dance, and other dancers follow, singing and dancing in a circle counterclockwise. Its dance steps are two beats, with a big step next to the left foot as a remake, the upper body leaning forward slightly, and the right foot taking a step to the right slightly. At the same time, the upper body stands upright, leans back slightly, faces the center of the circle or the direction of progress, and slowly and leisurely dances and sings in cycles, forming a beautiful artistic shape like a flame.
